California Wildfires: Another Perilous Disaster
In the last week, 79 deaths have happened because of Camp Fire, the fire's official name. Over 7,000 structures have been destroyed, and 200,000 people displaced. Over 1300 people are missing. Celebrities in Malibu were forced to relocate as well. Thousand Oaks, the sight of a shooting which took the lives of 12 people, was also affected. The fires are fueled by winds which carry the fire to new places. Low humidity also plays a part in spreading the fire. Some people returned to their homes to grab essential needs and left. California does not have the resources to combat this fire. Gov. Jerry Brown asked for a state of emergency from Congress, but did not get it. Entire communities have been decimated, and families broken. Hospitals, schools, offices, and homes burned in a flash. People's lives turned to ashes right before them. This is the reality which befalls California. They need aid fast, or there won't be anything left to burn. It is yet another example of climate change affecting American lives. The fire is 60% contained, but at the price of many lives. Camp Fire has become the deadliest fire ever in one season. Our country has to learn how to combat these fires, and provide the resources necessary to contain them early on, preventing many casualties.
