Hurricane Florence: A Perilous and Deadly One

Last week, Hurricane Florence struck the American coast. The wind speeds were up to 150 mph, and over 24 people were killed. Many other problems have emerged from the aftermath. One of them is looting. In North Carolina, police officers have caught many thieves trying to steal valuables from homes. This could cause more lives to be lost, raising both the emotional and financial toll on our country. Another problem is toxic waste going into the rivers and contaminating them. There are six nuclear power plants on the coast of North Carolina. Much of the toxic substances contained in them have probably gone into the rivers. This takes a heavy toll on the environment. As the world gets warmer, we can expect hurricanes of this magnitude to be more frequent. Due to the flooding, rivers inland will be flooded , causing cities to be affected as well. Another main concern is disease. Bacteria can easily spread across water, and infections can occur through cuts and scrapes obtained through the rescue process. The aftermath will be lengthy, but it will come back from the ashes. Thanks to the evacuation efforts by the government, many lives were saved. Experts in the future should use this as an example for solving natural disasters. I hope that everything is well there, and the recovery is speedy and smooth.
